SWISS CHARD

SWISS CHARD

What Season

Swiss chard is an extremely hardy vegetable that grows well in spring, summer, and autumn.
What season? Carrots are usually a winter crop as they withstand cold and frost. They can be grown successionally for an all year round crop. Sow carrots every few months for a steady crop.

Unlike spinach, it tolerates heat better, making it a great leafy green for extended growing periods. It thrives in temperatures between 10-25°C and can withstand light frosts, making it an ideal year-round crop in milder climates.

Sowing

Sow it were you grow it!

Swiss chard is ready for harvest in 50-60 days. Harvest outer leaves as needed, allowing the center to keep growing.

  • Sow seeds directly into the soil.

  • Plant 2 cm deep and space 30 cm apart.
  • If planting in rows, leave 45 cm between rows.
  • Thin young plants to ensure strong growth.
  • Cutting leaves regularly encourages continuous production, making Swiss chard an excellent cut-and-come-again crop.
Everything you need

GROWING YOUR FIRST SWISS CHARD

  • Cut-and-come-again crop – Regular harvesting encourages new growth.

  • Rich in nutrients – High in vitamins A, C, and K, making it a superfood.

  • Grows well in containers – Needs at least 20 cm deep pots.

  • Can reach up to 60 cm tall – Needs proper spacing for full-size growth.

  • Attracts aphids and slugs – Companion planting with onions or marigolds can help.
